Python regius, also called the Ball python, is a calm and docile snake native to West Africa. Easy to keep in captivity, it is especially appreciated by beginners thanks to its moderate size and peaceful temperament.

General Characteristics

The Ball python is one of the most popular snakes in herpetoculture.
Native to the savannas and open forests of West Africa, it is known for its gentle temperament, ease of handling and relatively simple care in captivity.
Its name “Ball python” comes from its tendency to curl into a ball when stressed or frightened.

With an adult size between 1.2 and 1.8 metres, it fits easily into a medium-sized enclosure.
Hundreds of genetic morphs exist today, offering a wide range of colours and patterns.
Python regius is a carnivore that feeds on rodents and can live for more than 20 years in captivity with proper care.
It does not require UVB lighting; natural daylight is sufficient to maintain its biological rhythm.
It is a robust snake, perfect for beginners and experienced keepers alike.
