General Characteristics

Rhacodactylus trachycephalus is endemic to the humid forests of southern New Caledonia. Its stocky build, large head and strong digits allow it to climb easily.
Unlike other Rhacodactylus species, it prefers cooler temperatures and high humidity, which must be strictly reproduced in captivity.
This gecko is strictly nocturnal and territorial, so group housing is not recommended. It readily consumes insects and fruit-based diets.
Although reserved, it is fascinating to observe in an appropriate enclosure, where it explores, climbs and feeds actively during the night.
